Slated to run through February 1, 2015, the exhibit aims to chart the evolution of lingerie from its constrictive days of wearing uncomfortable suffocating iron corsetry to the avant-garde technologically enhanced comfy skimpy creations of today.
Some of the major attractions include a rare 1600 century iron corset meant for women who had permanently damaged their spines from tying their corsets too tightly, an 1850’s steel cage crinoline petticoat, and a pair of 1860s drawers right from the wardrobes of Queen Victoria monogrammed with the royal cypher ‘VR’ meaning Victorian Regina.
Also several satin Wonderbras and old age panniers alongside new age pieces designed by the likes of Balenciaga, Versace, Vivienne Westwood and Jean Paul-Gaultier have become part of the expansive exhibition. (PB)
