About six new talents will be introduced at the upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015’s mentoring platform Gen Next, a programme that has launched some of the industry’s most talented designers, including Swapnil Shinde, Rahul Mishra, Masaba Gupta and Aneeth Arora, till date.

All participants from the 19th batch, which include names like Alan Alexander Kaleekal, Ankit Carpenter, Kanika Goyal, Manish Bansal, Priyanka Ella Lorena Lama and Salita Nanda, will be guided, nurtured and supported by the country’s seasoned fashion designer Anita Dongre.

Talking about her new role as a mentor, Dongre says, “I take great pride in leading the 19th batch of Gen Next programme as a mentor once again at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015. The current batch is a healthy mix of some extremely talented budding designers who are full of surprises. I strongly believe that LFW provides an ideal platform for young & new talent. And I am confident that the new batch will carve a niche for themselves and contribute in their own way to the Indian fashion industry with their fresh and original ideas. I look forward to another exciting and mutually enriching journey this season!”

A native of the city of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Alan Alexander Kaleekal is an alumnus of Studio Bercot, Paris. His collection at the upcoming event will exemplify an adult’s wardrobe re-interpreted through the eyes of a child. He describes his label ‘Kaleekal’ as a subversive and alternate way of looking at clothes. He adds, “My designs don’t target a specific demography, they re-interpret the norms of fashion.”

Delhi-based designer Ankit Carpenter will feature a cactus-inspired range at the Indian event. Replete with feminine elements in modern and classic ways, the line is based on clean cuts and silhouettes with a timeless aura. Talking about his collection Ankit says, “Greusha by Ankit’s heartbeat lies in sophistication, elegance, luxury & comfort. It aspires to create classic pieces which are not just timeless but are fierce too. The Gruesha woman is about ‘understated elegance’ with a wild heart and the beauty is defined by éperon beauté.”

New Delhi’s National Institute of Fashion Technology grad Kanika Goyal will highlight a line celebrating the wild instincts that arise from the deafening silence of the night. Titled as ‘Creatures of the Night’, the collection reflects a sense of provocative minimalism. Talking about her designs, she adds, “My designs bring out contrasting ideals into garments that narrate similar stories.”

Manish Bansal, the Delhi-based menswear designer, drew inspiration from the game of gamble for his catwalk presentation entitled ‘suits’. Explaining the concept of his range, Manish says, “The collection suggests a pun on the term ‘Suits’ – deriving reference from a suit of cards or as a suit worn by the influential and important person.”
