An exhibit chronicling the journey of Italian fashion from post World War II era to the present day is going on at Portland Art Museum, Oregon.

Slated to run through May 3, 3015, the event aims to highlight the exceptional techniques, materials and expertise mastered by key individuals and organizations that have contributed to Italy’s reputation for quality and style.

Titled Italian Style: Fashion Since 1945, the display features more than 100 menswear and womenswear pieces from Italy’s top game changers of all times such as Valentino, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana and Emilio Pucci.

The exhibit’s major attractions include a 1963 silk palazzo pyjama set by Irene Galitzine, a Mila Schon sequined evening dress and silk coat (worn by Princess Stanislaus Radziwill to Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball in 1966) and a 1987-88 Roberto Capucci evening gown.

The exhibit also includes a Tom Ford designed man’s velvet suit and a woman’s white silk viscose dress with a gold dragon brooch from Gucci’s Autumn/Winter 2004/05 collection, and a pair of exotic gold and pink embroidered Dolce and Gabbana leather ankle boots.

In addition to the creations by Italian design experts, a small section highlighting designs inspired by legendary Italian fashion makers from six Portland-based designers has also formed a part of the display.

The featured local designers are Anna Cohen (knitwear), Sonia Kasparian (couture), Elizabeth Dye (dresses), Adam Arnold (bespoke menswear) and Nike’s Charlie Holmes (sportswear). (PB)
