Luis Vuitton's stunning show in Palm Springs

It was a heady mix of high fashion and architecture when Louis Vuitton debuted its Cruise 16 collection at the iconic home of comedian Bob Hope, high above the desert floor in Palm Springs, US, earlier this week.
The exclusive runway show attended by hundreds lasted only 15 minutes, but its legacy will last much longer, according to media reports.
The architecture of the house itself paired well with the collection, which conjured up images of a folkloric fantasy, said one report.
Destination fashion shows have become the norm for luxury fashion brands who can create a captive audience of their fashion industry related guests.
Models waltzed their way down the twisting staircases to strut the catwalk poolside, weaving in between the rows of audience members who sat in a winding pattern on benches placed on the lawn.
Pairing structured leather pieces like an asymmetric top or boxy, studded clutch with a flowing maxi skirt or pleated linen pants led to a futuristic, feminine feel for the whole collection.
The line remained on-trend, however, by including several current styles such as jumpsuits, midriff-baring tops and chunky boots in the show.
The mostly neutral colour palette meshed perfectly with the show's desert surroundings, but it was the exquisite detailing of each piece that stole the show.
Whether it was delicate eyeleting in a bold leather dress, the shimmering panels on a seemingly simple top or a glimpse of the signature Louis Vuitton pattern, the smaller features of the clothing added the most character to the cohesive collection.
The modernist collection attracted a host of celebrity guests, including Kanye West, Selena Gomez, Michelle Williams, Marisa Tomei and Catherine Deneuve, all first grabbing a shuttle or car to the venue from Parker Palm Springs. (SH)
