Board Of Investment (BOI) Sri Lanka releases statement by Mr. Hasitha Tillkeratne, Chairman, National Gem & Jewellery Authority stated that Sri Lanka's total gems & jewellery exports in the first quarter, has increased by 39 percent over last year's corresponding period. He further added that during the first quarter of 2006, the country exported Rs. 3,262.5mn worth gems & jewellery.
The exports from the diamond jewellery performed remarkably well during this period, recording an increase of 111 percent.
Furthermore, the exports of coloured stone jewellery increased from 248.8mn to Rs. 331.6mn, an increase of 33 percent.
Tillakaratne stated that one of the reasons for the boost in the export of gems and jewellery was the removal of VAT on the import of rough gemstones, diamonds and precious metal.
The Authority has designed a comprehensive promotional campaign to in order to achieve maximum publicity in the target markets.
