Memorial Day 2005 saw the launch of New York based iluren.com, an exciting new online gallery and e-commerce web site dedicated to 100 percent handmade, modern home decor and jewelry.
Two of iluren.com's New York-based contemporary designers – the futuristic glass sculpturist, William Couig, and the Zen-like porcelain craftsman, Jeff Nimeh -- were among only 120 artists chosen from over 1,200 applicants to participate in the 2005 Smithsonian Craft Show (SCS), the nation's most prestigious juried exhibition and sale of contemporary American craft.
According to Wendy Wall, the SCS 2005 Co-Chair, the "elegant simplicity" of Bill and Jeff's designs and, to Alix Myerson, the 2006 Co- Chair, Bill's "edgy look that may encourage risktakers" to participate in the upcoming and future shows, compelled the SCS to feature images of their work in the 2005 advertisements for the event and the 2006 Call for Entry announcement.
Advertisements for the Smithsonian Craft Show now appear on the iluren.com homepage and on a special page of the site(http://www.iluren.com/smithsonian_craft_show.html).
iluren.com will be featured in a program ad for the 2006 SCS, and the iluren team is currently working with the SCS Chairs to launch additional, collaborative activities.
Currently featured on iluren.com, in addition to Bill and Jeff's work, are the handmade home decor and wearable art of four other contemporary designers: warm and gentle, while also edgy porcelain from Brooklyn-based, Ellen O'Sullivan; modern, whimsical, hand-cast sterling silver jewelry from the Lahti, Finland-based design team, Chao & Eero Jewel; progressive, yet classical sterling silver rings, with precious and semi-precious stones, from Taiwan-born, Pennsylvania-based, Peiyi Lupo; these works rounded out by handblown glass objects d'art from the already world-renowned, Taiwan and Australia-based, Sunny Wang, that are featured in iluren.com's Special Collections section. Iluren.com anticipates adding the work of up to a half- dozen more designers/design teams by the end of 2005.
iluren features free shipping within the 48 Continental United States on all items. iluren embodies modern, 100 percent handmade, reasonably-priced home decor and jewelry for any lifestyle.
