Govt to accord NIFT national institute stature

In the Rajya Sabha, Union Textile Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela stated that the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) would be announced as an institution of national importance following to IITs and Indian Institute of Science.

The government will file for the proposed bill in next coming winter session, said Vaghela.

The minister informed that many states have urged to open NIFT branches, and government is seriously mulling on their offers.

National Institute of Fashion Technology was set up in the year 1986 with the support of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

The institute has emerged as the leading institute of design, management and technology, developing professionals to lead fashion business in the growing global scenario.

NIFT offers a common platform for fashion education, research and training. The Institute is a pioneer in visualizing and evolving fashion business education in India through a chain of seven centres located at New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
