Italian Designer, Renato Balestra at preview Fashion Trade Fair

In May 2005 Balestra was invited to Australia as part of a Victorian Government initiative, with the support of Minister Lyn Kosky.
This initiative also included the internationally Specialised Skills Institute (ISSI)/TAFE Design Fellowship Program, which funds internationally recognised designers to conduct workshops in Melbourne for TAFE students and teachers. As part of his work in Australia, Balestra also conducted classes for three leading fashion teachers and oversaw training sessions for more than 32 other TAFE teachers and current fashion and design students.
During this trip Balestra will choose two TAFE students to receive travelling scholarships worth $10,000, which will enable them to visit his atelier in Rome next year as well as other innovative design centres throughout Europe. The final garments of these students will be presented to Renato Balestra when he returns to Australia in September.

FASHION EXPOSED is Australia's largest all encompassing business event for the Fashion Industry, in Melbourne from 4-6 September 2005 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Southbank. Buyers will be impressed with the broadest range of Autumn/Winter 2006 apparel on show from 500+ Australian wholesalers, manufacturers and designers.
