Despite the fact that more than half of the respondents (58 percent) said they remain up-to-date on current fashion trends, more than 30 percent think trendy clothing is too expensive. Almost 70 percent of respondents said that if price were not an issue, they would definitely buy trendier fashions, especially some of this season's must-have items.

According to the survey, trendy women this fall will be wearing: chunky jewellery (45 percent), embellished jeans (41 percent), cropped jackets (40 percent) and wedge heeled boots (22 percent). For men, anything purple (31 percent) rules supreme, followed by the classic cardigan sweater (30 percent), whose resurgence would make Mr. Rogers proud. Also, look for men sporting double breasted suit jackets (29 percent) and pea coats (9 percent) as the weather cools down.

"H&M's fall fashion will be folklore, romantic and uniform inspired with a contemporary twist," says Christian Bagnoud, director of marketing for H&M Canada. "We're extremely excited about the autumn collection, and we want our customers to have fun with fashion and use our clothes to create their own personal style."

For many Canadians, a change of season automatically demands a change of wardrobe. More than 50 percent of respondents indicated they would spend an estimated $300 to update their fall wardrobe.

Andrea Tolfo, a 21 year old university student, admits that if cost were not a factor she would splurge on her fall wardrobe. "If prices were a little more reasonable, I'd likely change my wardrobe each season," said Tolfo. "But as a student I'll probably only spend about $250."
