Leading quality fashion department store Bon-Ton Stores Inc announced total and comparable store sales for the four weeks ended August 27, 2005 decreased 1.2 percent to $85.1 million compared to $86.2 million for the same period last year.Year-to-date total sales decreased 2.1 percent to $622.0 million compared to $635.4 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 1.8 percent.

Baireuther, Vice Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer, commented, "Product categories which performed well during August were women's special size apparel, shoes, fashion accessories, intimate, men's sportswear and furniture. The weakest categories were cosmetics, juniors and soft home.
They are pleased that spring/summer merchandise is being liquidated on a timely basis as we transition into fall merchandise assortments.Inventory is well-positioned and will be supported by a strong promotional calendar."
Pennsylvania based Bon-Ton Stores Inc engages to operate 139 department stores and two furniture stores in 16 states from the Northeast to the Midwest under the Bon-Ton and Elder-Beerman names.
