Retail chain store Burlington Coat's Q1 sales surge

New Jersey based national department store retail chain Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corporation announced the net sales from continuing operations for the first quarter ended August 27, 2005 were $651.1 million compared with $574.2 million for the similar period ended August 28, 2004, a 13.4 percent increase.

These results reflect an 8.9 percent comparative store sales increase over the comparative period in the prior year. Comparative store sales increased 13.2 percent in June, increased 7.5 percent in July and increased 5.6 percent in August compared with the same periods last year.

During the first quarter of fiscal 2006, the Company opened one Burlington Coat Factory store and relocated two Burlington Coat Factory stores to new locations within their existing trading markets. One Burlington Coat Factory store was closed during the quarter.

It offers coats, mens, womens, kids clothing, baby bedding cribs, accessories, linens, rugs. The roots of Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corporation (the "Company") go back to 1924 with wholesale sales of ladies coats and junior suits. In 1972, the Company opened its first outlet store in Burlington, New Jersey. Coats were the primary offering at the original Burlington Coat Factory, but over time the concept evolved into a one-stop shopping experience.
