“Maria Callas & Swarovski, Jewels on Stage”, the exhibition of stage jewellery worn by one of opera's most famous divas, is in Barcelona, Spain. Some 50 pieces of this unique collection are being shown at the Gran Teatre del Liceu from November 29, 2007 to January 20, 2008.
This unique collection of stage jewellery, worn by Maria Callas for performances from 1947 to 1960, is the result of the superb craftsmanship of the Atelier Marangoni in Milan.
They created the pieces in close collaboration with her, exclusively using Swarovski crystals. More than 50 years later, Swarovski has assembled, restored and documented this spectacular collection, which can now be enjoyed by opera and Callas aficionados.
Every piece has a close personal connection to Maria Callas and many represented good luck talismans for the highly superstitious performer.
The collection also documents one of the most important periods in the history of opera.
