The Intimate Apparel Council (IAC), a division of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), announced the New York 2009 Market Week dates: February 2-6, May 4-8, August 3-7 and November 2-6.
This year, the Fashion Institute of Technology Center for Executive Education and the IAC will launch the Certified Intimate Apparel Professional program, the first Intimate Apparel industry education and certification program.
“During Market Weeks intimate apparel companies meet with retailers to show new lines of innovative fashions, ranging from bras and panties to sleepwear, robes loungewear and shapewear,” states Mark Sandler, Chairman of the IAC and Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, O'Bryan Brothers Inc.
“I am also very excited about the year ahead,” continued Sandler. “Our speaker programs, which are held during Market Weeks, include William Dillard III of Dillard's, Marshal Cohen of NPD, Charles Crowley Esq. of Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A., and Laurie Greeley of Victoria's Secret (invited).”
Intimate/Sleepwear accounted for 17.5 billion in 2007 retail sales, according to statistics provided from The NPD Group, an economic consulting firm based in Port Washington, New York.
The IAC is one of the most prestigious organizations in the industry and is comprised of leading designers, brands, retailers and suppliers of intimate apparel products.
The mission of the IAC is to stimulate the growth of the intimate apparel business by creating a network and a forum to actively identify, address and act on matters of interest to the industry.
