Electra, Avenues of Light at Vienna Opera Ball

The call of “Alles Walzer” (“everybody waltz”) rang out for the 52nd time at the Viennese State Opera this year, with the Vienna Opera Ball being held on 31 January 2008.

Swarovski once again ensured the debutantes made a stunning entry, with the traditional Austrian company's design team lovingly creating the exceptionally-detailed “Electra” crown for the young ladies.

The piece draws its inspiration from Swarovski's new Spring/Summer 2008 collection “Avenues of Light”, which reflects the sparkling skylines of the world's major metropolises.

Every year since 1959, Swarovski has delighted the attendees at the Vienna Opera Ball, and this year's debutante crown – which features countless CRYSTALLIZED – Swarovski Elements – brought added glamour to the Austrian society event.

Three years ago, Swarovski's design team took on the honourable task of creating this singular detail for the ball, starting a tradition that continued this season with “Electra”.

This unique crown dazzled guests at the stunning opera house (located on Vienna's famous Ringstrasse), and further emphasized the enchanting beauty of the young ladies who wore it.

The Swarovski Spring/Summer 2008 collection “Avenues of Light” draws its inspiration from the effervescent dynamic of major cities and the urban landscape of endless sparkling window fronts.

The “Electra” crown, designed for the 52nd Opera Ball, reflects this theme, with the glittering elements of the headpiece vividly expressing the irrepressible spirit of the city.

The straight, elegant and dynamic lines of the crown are almost architectonic in their geometry, while the clear, bold design so prevalent in urban landscapes is reflected in the modern cut of the CRYSTALLIZED – Swarovski Elements.

Furthermore, these crystals reflect light in every colour of the spectrum. This latest Swarovski creation was was realised by Austrian jewellery makers “Bijou Neumann & Wenzel”, who are based in Enns and are known throughout the world for the perfection of their handcrafted work.

The opening of the Opera Ball by the young debutantes and their partners marks a special highpoint of the evening, and Swarovski always feels honoured to be able to crown the symbolic arrival of these young men and women onto the social scene with an elegant crystal piece.

The CRYSTALLIZED – Swarovski Elements, Swarovski's ingredient brand of precisely cut, individual pieces, also revealed their full splendour when incorporated into the stylish pieces, which formed the perfect addition to an unforgettable night of fairytale elegance.
