Yemen, the Middle East country has a charm of its own. The strong Arabic culture and heritage has influenced many people world wide. Even the garments are famous for their rich patterns and exclusive embroidery.

The clothes were earlier designed by keeping geographical surroundings in mind. Regions played an important role in selecting fabric and pattern. For example, women living on hills had silk and wool garments that had high necks and wide long sleves.

However, with modernization slowly creeping into all the aspects of life, effects can be seen in the dressing styles of Yemeni women. Now, they also have become fashion conscious.

The dresses are now smart and chic in their designs. Delicate embroidery is done with gold, silver and silk threads and motifs are inspired by nature. The fabrics are light and soft, as cotton and flex are mostly used.

For a long time women have worn the traditional attire on auspicious occasions like weddings and religious functions. But things have changed now, customary garments are hardly worn. Skits, trousers and other modern dresses are usually flaunted by the younger generation.
