Taree Birse wins TAWFA 2008 Supreme Award

Each year, more than 400 entrants from all over Australia, and in more recent years New Zealand, UK, USA and Dubai, compete for prizes worth over $40,000. The rewards include significant cash prizes, gifts of work experience with leading Australian fashion designers and Scholarships to study at recognised Fashion Institutes. Over the years, many entrants have gone on to careers in fashion.

TAWFA is judged by high-profile fashion industry personalities to provide the entrants with an opportunity to receive real insight into how their garments will be perceived by the industry.

Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has been a major sponsor of TAWFA for the past seven years.

Craig Welsh, CEO of AWI, who presented the finalist award on the night explained, “AWI recognises the valuable opportunities TAWFA presents to the rural and regional student design communities - it is a true investment into the future of Australian design.”

Four innovative Australian Merino wool fabrics were provided to the awards for this year's competition:
• Natural easy care shirting- 100% Australian Merino wool, Manufacturer- Nanshan Group, Shanghai, China
• Metallic Merino & Bamboo- 64% Australian Merino wool, 16% bamboo charcoal, 14% nylon, 6% metallic, Manufacturer- Tai Fung Textiles Co Ltd, China
• Merino Soy Bean- 77% Australian Merino wool, 20% soy bean, 3% polyester, Manufacturer- Tai Fung Textiles Co Ltd, China
• KLIMEO- 100% Australian Merino wool, Manufacturer- Chargeurs Fabrics, France
