A Fancy Vivid Purplish Pink diamond, oval-cut, weighing 5.06 carats and mounted as a ring within a surround of pear-shaped stones (est: CHF 2,350,000-2,850,000), sold for CHF 2,681,000 ($2,554,242). An important Fancy Light Pink diamond ring, claw-set with a fancy light pink cut-cornered rectangular-cut diamond weighing 6.26 carats sold for CHF 1,673,000 ($1,593,901), well above its pre-sale estimate of CHF 650,000 - 1,000,000.

Period pieces were also extremely sought-after tonight, with a late 1920s diamond sautoir by Van Cleef & Arpels, designed as a series of geometric and round links set with diamonds and suspending a diamond tassel pendant selling for CHF 1,034,600 ($985,684), well above its pre-sale estimate of CHF 150,000-250,000.

Meanwhile the cover lot of the sale, a fine emerald and diamond bracelet of graduated emerald beads alternating with lines of brilliant-cut and baguette diamonds realised CHF 810,600 ($772,275), more than eight times its low estimate (CHF 100,000-150,000).

The Noble Jewels sale, a theme which was inaugurated by Sotheby's last year, fared spectacularly well today, realising a total of CHF 7.5 ($7.2) million, against a pre-sale estimate of CHF 3.4 – 4.9 million and demonstrating that jewels with impeccable provenance are supremely sought-after in the current market.

The top lot of the section was an important and rare pearl and diamond brooch from the mid 19th century. The old mine 'Golconda' diamond weighing 7.86 carats, suspending a natural pearl drop sold for CHF 900,200 ($857,639), more than doubling its pre-sale low estimate (CHF 400,000-600,000).

Further highlights in the section included a group of antique French jewels from the collection of Henriette de l'Espine, S.A.S La Princesse de Croÿ, led by an important diamond corsage ornament, signed by Vever, circa 1900.

Designed as an articulated floral branch and set with cushion-shaped, circular- and rose-cut diamonds, this exquisite jewel was contested by several bidders both in the room and on the telephones, and finally sold for a phenomenal CHF 777,000 ($740,263), against a pre-sale estimate of just CHF 155,000-235,000.
