At 150,000 square feet, the store will be two levels and will offer a full complement of apparel and accessories for men, women and children, along with selected merchandise for the home.

"Sarasota is a very important market for us, and we are pleased to be expanding our stores," said Julie Greiner, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy's Florida.

"We are looking forward to making our selections of fashion and affordable luxury available in this new location, and we are pleased to be a part of this exciting new shopping and dining destination. With its exciting mix of retail, commercial and residential, University Town Center will bring a new vibrancy and energy to the Sarasota market."

Groundbreaking is planned for fall 2009, and the store will open in fall 2010. University Town Center is being developed by The Forbes Company, The Taubman Co. and Benderson Development Company. The Macy's Florida division is based in Miami and currently operates 62 stores in Florida and Puerto Rico.
