Retail growth in the Middle East shows no signs of slowing down. According to regional industry forecasts, the retail industry across the Middle East is projected to exceed US$ 500 billion by 2010.

Retail is the second-largest non-oil sector in the UAE as well as across the GCC. UAE is also ranked 8th in a study analyzing the attractiveness of 250 retail markets around the world.

UAE has positioned itself as a prime shopping destination for the Middle East, Europe and Asia. The clothing and fashion market in the UAE is experiencing stellar growth on the back of rising consumer spending, surge in the number of tourists and 145% growth in retail space in the last few years with the construction of new malls and shopping centres.

According to a Dubai based retail services consultancy, Emiratis and the expatriate community have a lot of disposable income and fashion is an industry that has a good future here. Dubai's retail spending on garments and textiles is expected to reach US$ 7.5 billion by 2009.

This remarkable growth in the regional clothing and fashion industry is also attributed to Dubai's recognition as a leading tourism destination. Approximately 40% of the consumers at malls and fashion outlets are tourists. As Dubai aims to attract 15 million tourists by 2015, the industry is only set for a rapid growth.
