Jewelry, the first love of every human being, especially women is the oldest form of body adornment!

The desire to look beautiful can be located way back in the Mohenjodaro - Harappa civilization as archeological findings show that females used to wear different types and shapes of jewelries.

If this is true then the concept of jewelry designing must be older than that? Yes, of course.

In the present era, where man is so conscious about his appearance, will opting for jewelry designing as a career, be considered a profitable one? Here also the answer is affirmative.

Lucrative job openings, high-level salaries and striking growth rate of gems and jewelry sector across the globe are luring the gen X, to join this industry.

Today's career conscious generation, is more focused. They know what to achieve in life and how to go about that. Jinal, an Indian Diamond Institute (IDI) student says about jewelry designing, “It's my interest and secondly, the trend goes with it and most importantly, I will be able to work as a free lancer.”

“Getting a job in this sector isn't difficult as campus interviews are organized by renowned companies” says Tasneem, another aspiring IDI student. “Faculty in Indian Diamond Institute (IDI) inspires student to have their own business; exhibitions are organized to provide opportunities for the students to explore their marketing skills and they have gained good response in doing so.”

Established designers in the field like Vishal Vagashia suggest that jewelry designing is an interesting and creative field. One can have a very good career as a large possibility lies here. “India is supplying jewelry to world over since quite some time now, and we can see the demand for Indian jewelry is rising continuously.”

Discussing about that unique quality should a new comer posses to sustain successfully in this competitive market, Vishal says, “I think if you have innovative ideas that's suitable for market, it's surely going to work and will be accepted by people. Anyone can be in touch with international market with different website and can understand the current trends and can come-up with his or her fresh ideas.

These views are supported by another prominent designer in the field, Rhea Nasta, who opines, “Jewelry designing is just a platform to enter the industry. There after one can go further into other related fields such as Product development, Quality control and others. With the knowledge that one gathers as a jewelry designer, he or she can do well in the retail field too. However, you have to be ahead with ideas else you stagnate. It is important for a fresher to get practical experience in the industry wherein hard work is needed.”

“Looking into the efforts of designers striving for recognition, I along with other jewelry designershave formed the Jewelry Designers Council of India (JDCI) to form a platform for designers. We hope that Indian Jewelry designers are able to carve a niche the International market in the future.”
