Increasing footwear exports to US a safe bet – Lefaso

This year WSA Show (World Shoe Association) is scheduled from July 28 to 30 in Las Vegas. Vietnam Leather and Shoes Association (Lefaso) is planning to send a group of entrepreneurs, related to footwear industry in the country, to showcase their products at the show.
Lefaso has taken this step in order to increase its presence and market share in the profitable US market, especially North America, as footwear exports from Vietnam to this region has witnessed a yearly rise of 20 percent.
According to experts, footwear enterprises in Vietnam have been relying largely on the EU markets for earning foreign currency. This is an alarming situation as there is unbalance in exports and there is a risk of anti–dumping cases also. However, by diversifying overseas customers, there will be less chance of getting into trouble.
After WSA exhibition gets over, the delegate will visit Mexico to seek various business possibilities and venture into new deals.
In the first half of 2008, Vietnam fetched nearly US $2.274bllion by shipping footwear to various nations and this represents a year-on-year increase of 17 percent.
