totes-ISOTONER, the world's largest marketer of umbrellas, gloves, slippers and other weather-related accessories, announced its Senz by totes XL storm umbrella is the recipient of the coveted Gold International Design Excellence Award (IDEA).
The IDEA award program is the premier international competition honoring design excellence in products, eco-design, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts. Entries are invited from designers, students and companies worldwide. The prestigious award is co-sponsored by BusinessWeek magazine and The Industrial Design Society of America.
This prestigious seal for exceptional design is awarded annually to products with sophisticated and innovative design. The Senz XL Storm Umbrella won the Gold IDEA Award in the “Personal Accessories” category and was among more than 1,500 product entries overall.
“We try to achieve two things with our umbrella designs – great fashion design coupled with high quality functionality,” said Michael Katz, Senior Vice President, U.S. Wholesale Division. “This recognition proves that we have been successful.” Katz said the company is honored to receive the award and share it with the designers of Senz, a group of young entrepreneurs from The Netherlands.
The 2008 IDEA jury comprised of 20 world-renowned designers and design thinkers, spent weeks previewing entries online and two-and-a-half days of intense, face-to-face evaluation and debate on IDEA.
Judging criteria for each entry focused on eight areas of industrial design excellence: design innovation; benefit to the user; benefit to the client/business; benefit to society; ecological responsibility; appropriate aesthetics and appeal; usability testing; rigor and reliability and other qualities.
Senz by totes - The solution for all umbrella struggles
The unique design of the Senz XL Storm Umbrella eliminates all of the well-known umbrella frustrations, such as inversion, breaking, dangerous tips, bad sights and uncomfortable use. The Senz umbrella is aerodynamically designed to cut through and deflect the wind, withstanding a wind speed of up to 70 MPH.
The umbrella has an asymmetrical canopy shape that resembles an airplane wing, unique reinforcing rib configuration, and special foam grip handle. It also has a special opening and closing mechanism and unique “Eyesaver” tips that connect the canopy to the frame without protruding points.
