ArtStudio at LFW blends fashion with art

Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW), India's premium fashion event, along with JAMAAT, the contemporary art gallery in Mumbai, come together to merge art with fashion at 'ArtStudio'.
'ArtStudio' will be inaugurated at the forthcoming LFW Spring Summer'09, from 20th to 24th October 2008 at NCPA, Mumbai.
The theme is the artists' interpretation of fashion through their art. Several of the country's prominent artists have been chosen to be a part of ArtStudio, such as: Ajay De, Arzan Khambatta, Brinda Chudasama Miller, Jayasri Burman, Laila Khan Rajpal, Manish Gera Baswani, Paresh Maity, Rini Dhumal, Samir Mondal, Satish Gujral, Sameen Oshidar and Sunil Padwal. These eminent artists would create their interpretation of fashion with forms and colorful brush strokes on canvas.
Pravina Mecklai, founder of JAMAAT says, “World over, many fashion designers have showcased their collections at art galleries and museums. On the other hand, haute couture designers in Milan have art galleries within their prestigious stores.
There is an enthralling synergy between art & Fashion as they both reflect visual creations with color and form. 'ArtStudio' at LFW, is the stepping stone for India towards creating such a dynamic synthesis.”
Talking about this unique initiative, Anil Chopra, Advisor - Lakmé, says, “Taking fashion to greater heights with this unique initiative, LFW will blend fashion with art. This is another first in Indian fashion, as we continue our endeavor of making each season better than the last! We demonstrate by action each time, our mission of “Defining the Future of Fashion.”
Echoing Anil's thought's, Vikram Raizada, Head of Fashion - IMG, says, “With each season, Lakmé Fashion Week strives to create greater impact in defining the future of fashion in India. While art is treated as a separate entity from fashion, ArtStudio at LFW, promises to merge Art and Fashion, creating an exciting and new dimension to Lakme Fashion Week.”
The exquisite art collection will be displayed during Lakme fashion Week, at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) by the creation of a wall mounted 'gallery' outside the Main Show Area. So, come October and not only can fashionistas, but Art connoisseurs' feast their eyes on some exquisite creations on the ramp, but off the ramp as well!
