FDDI to provide consultancy for establishing a footwear training institute

The Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI), Noida is going to providing consultancy to the Government of Sri Lanka for designing, installing and commissioning of a footwear training institute in Sri Lanka.

On being asked about the development in this regard, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI said, “Yes, it's true, our efforts are yielding results; we are expanding on the global stage. There is no doubt that the FDDI is able to cater any type of demand of the industry that too not only in India but at the international level. FDDI is becoming the first choice as a total solution provider to the industry at any level.”

"We have received a letter from the Clothing Industry Training Institute (CITI), Ministry of Textile Industry Development, Government of Sri Lanka seeking consultancy from FDDI for establishing a footwear training institute in Sri Lanka," added Mr. Lakhara.

In this regard, a Sri Lankan delegation led by Mr. Piyatilake, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industrial Development comprising of Mr. RVD Piyatilake, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industrial Development, Government of Sri Lanka, Mr. WD Jayasinghe, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of Sri Lanka, Mr. DPCP Jayaveera, Dy. Director, CITI, TMB Manike, Director, Ministry of Industrial Development, GOSL, Mr. LPS Karunadasa, Director, IDB, Mrs. KAT De Saram, Export Development Board, Mr. Nimal Samarakkody, Chairman, Ceylon Leather Products Ltd., representing Sri Lankan leather and leather footwear industries had visited FDDI on 4th of February 2008 and had expressed desire to have a footwear training institute in Sri Lanka.

During their visit, the delegation had discussed in length about the technical assistance from FDDI for setting up of footwear training institute in Sri Lanka. The delegation had a long discussion with the Managing Director who had assured the delegation of full support in setting up of footwear training institute in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lankan delegation, during their visit to FDDI was highly impressed with the vision of FDDI's management, the facility, the infrastructure & the services provided by FDDI to the industry.

"The footwear training institute of Sri Lanka will basically have three main components that are Design Studio or Design Centre, Laboratory & Training Department." Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI.

Consequently, a high level delegation consisting experts of FDDI had visited Sri Lanka to discuss the modalities for setting up of footwear institute in Sri Lanka. A detailed project report was sent to the Sri Lankan government after visiting the location which was accepted by the Sri Lankan government.
