Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM) has been playing a vital role for bringing the fashion sector of the region on national level. The centre holds various competitions round the year to encourage and appreciate the budding talent in the region.

At present, CPTTM, the non profit organization is holding the annual, Macau Youth Sewing and Creative Design Competition that has created lot of interest among the teenagers who have a flair for fashion.

For gaining more information related to this interesting contest Fibre2fashion, contacted Ms Victoria Kaun, Manager, Apparel Technology Department (CPTTM) who stated, “The competition that began on August 20 will wrap up today at the House of Apparel Technology. This year nearly 33 young and aspiring designers aged between 16 to 21 have taken part to showcase their talent, under the theme 'Beauty Party'.

On August 20 and 21, the contestants were asked to create garment from paper and were judged on the measurements and cuts. These contestants are to create either wedding or evening gowns using desired fabrics on August 25-26. Eminent judges from the field of fashion and designs will select the best dresses today, for deciding the winner, whose designs are most innovative and outstanding.”

While talking about the measures the Centre is taking to uplift the fashion industry of Macau Ms Victoria asserted, “We are members of Asia Apparel Federation and International Apparel Federation, that constantly keeps us updated regarding various changes that takes place globally. These associations help CPTTM mould training courses accordingly, for providing better understanding of fashion. These training programmes are meant for high school students and adults who wish to join the industry.”

The success of this contest can be traced from the fact that CPTTM made a humble beginning in 2002 with only simple Sewing contest and after looking at the popularity it gained, this year they have added the Creative Design segment to it.

The center also holds innumerable seminars and presentations to keep Macau textile and garment industry updated with international trends.

Experts opine that, if more organizations and institutes take such initiatives, the garment and textile industry of the region can compete on global level, through interesting designs that the local designers create to increase the exports.
