Edwing D'Angelo to present Aquactica Designs at Couture Fashion

New York-based fashion designer Edwing D'Angelo will present his latest collection during New York's Couture Fashion Week in September 2008 at the Westin Times Square in the heart of the Big Apple.

Entitled "Aquactica", the highly creative designs are inspired by the continent of Antarctica and its eerily beautiful black and white dreamlike landscapes, especially the shifting shapes and textures that Spring brings to that harsh environment.

The fashion show is being sponsored by SoftSheen Carson Professional (L'Oreal USA) and will feature both men's and women's garments with the designer's trademark attention to detail and finish, and a distinctive craftsmanship and construction focusing on pleating and draping.

Women's silhouettes highlight the wearer's curves with contemporary, fashion-forward designs. D'Angelo's men's fashions this season are sophisticated and elegant, making use of innovative virtually invisible belts provided by isABELT, another sponsor of the fashion show this season.

The use of all-ethnic models in the fashion show (Latinos, mixed race Europeans, Asians and African-Americans) is D'Angelo's acknowledgement of what he sees as a "marketing metamorphosis" worldwide, with traditional norms and status quos becoming ever more inclusive of all races.

The designer sees this trend all around us in contemporary society - from the nomination of Barack Obama as the first African-American Democratic candidate in the USA to the recent "all Black" issue of Vogue Italia, as well as changing standards in films, sports and other cultural areas, and he is pleased to take the lead in bringing this new conversation to the fashion industry.

A native of Colombia, Edwing D'Angelo caters to a fashion-savvy clientele from his Manhattan atelier with designs characterized by detailed skilled construction and sensibility.

D'Angelo has been featured in such publications as the New York Post, New York Daily News, Essence, WWD, MetroPop, Latina and Next and recently appeared on CBS-2's Morning with anchorwoman Shon Gables. His designs have appeared in films including.

The Devil Wears Prada and Dirty Laundry, and he has served as fashion consultant for the BET Music Awards, Univision, Telemundo, MTV, VH1, CBS, ABC and Full Frontal Fashion, among others.

He was the custom designer for the Super Bowl XL Pepsi commercial and Reebok chose D'Angelo to re-design its sportswear for violin siren, Miri Ben-Ari, in her I AM campaign. D'Angelo creates exclusive designs for Wynona Judd for her country music American Idol television program.

Edwing D'Angelo is a favorite designer of many of top celebrities including Vivica A. Fox, Patti LaBelle, Lil' Kim, Paula Garces, Nelly, Sean Paul, Mo'Nique, Rosa Blasi, Tia Texada and Tony Award nominee Laurie Metcalf to name a few.
