Cilla Black hits high notes on LFW runway

Most fashion weeks experience something of a slump mid-week. Not so yesterday. As one fabulous show followed another, it was a rollercoaster ride of a day.

S/S 09 London catwalk highlights:
Richard Nicoll:
50s modernism, 90s minimalism, Helmut Lang and Herb Ritts photography were the disparate references on this designer's mood board. But no re-hashed pastiche here. This was a stellar collection of modern, assured pieces.

Jenny Packham: The designer kept it simple this season. Cocktail dress confections in Quality Street hues that will provide Packham's clientele with the dressed-up attire they require. Lucky dressing for cocktails o'clock.

Mulberry: Emma Hill's debut collection for the brand displayed a lightness of touch. Her signature? Focusing on design details and making them the hero of the piece (think supersized rivets and oversized poppers on bags and jackets). A thoroughly wearable collection that was very, very covetable.

Roksanda Ilincic: Most designer collections would have been dwarfed by the stark, unforgiving space of the Albion Gallery - Ilincic's choice of venue. Instead, it provided the perfect backdrop for the designer's stunningly romantic collection of exquisitely crafted evening wear - amongst the most desirable of the week.

Bringing yesterday's shows to a close was Fashion For Relief, a catwalk show in aid of the White Ribbon Alliance. It saw Cilla Black hit the high notes on the runway whilst Naomi stormed down in her signature style, before heading to Taman Gang for the after party. Down the road at Harrods' Ladurée café, Andre 3000 celebrated the launch of his menswear range Benjamin Bixby.

It was Versailles excess for the hip hop fop and his coterie of cute attendees - notably Coco Sumner, Alexa Chung and Suke Alice. Finishing the night off with a flourish, Henry Holland's after party hosted by Levi's in the Bloomsbury Ballrooms (the venue for his show earlier that day), saw the cool fashion crowd take to the school disco style dance floor and throw some shapes.
