Meher & Rahul Mishra to represent India at 24th IAF Convention

Indian fashion is moving at breakneck speed on the domestic and international fronts.

The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), member of the International Apparel Federation (IAF) has selected two prominent fashion personalities to represent India at the Annual IAF International Design Award 2008.

There will a total of 10 countries who would be participating viz. India, Taiwan, Turkey, Vietnam, Spain, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France and Greece.

Part of the 3 member jury panel will be Meher Castelino, pioneering fashion journalist. The other two judges are a prominent western designer and a well known manufacturer representing the United States of America, Asia and Europe.

Representing India in the contest will be ace Indian designer, Rahul Mishra, a graduate of NID who was awarded the prestigious scholarship by the Instituto Marongoni in Milan Italy.

“The IAF International Designer Award is the most prestigious contest where prominent designers from around the world participate every year.

This year designers from ten countries will be vying for the award. The theme of the contest is “Seizing the Day Crossing into the Night” in the women's wear category.

Rahul Mishra the new rising star of India will represent the country. His knowledge of craft, textiles and fashion is impeccable.

Meher Castelino fashion expert who has judged numerous Indian and international contests including the CMAI APEX awards for many years; is the perfect choice as member of the jury which will also comprise a prominent European designer and well known manufacturer representing the USA, Asia and Europe,” informs Rahul Mehta, President, CMAI and Vice President IAF and Asian Apparel Federation.

The panel of three judges will evaluate the designs on the basis of creativity (40%) and marketability (60%). Three complete garments will be presented by each designer along with relevant accessories. The judging will take place on October 29 when the panel will evaluate the creations.

Three awards will be given at the contest:
1. Most Creative Design
• Round trip economy class airfare to attend the IAF World Apparel Convention 2009
• Hotel accommodation for the duration the IAF World Apparel Convention 2009 and a free slot for the IAF International Design Award 2009 catwalk show.

2. Most Commercial Design
• Certificate and trophy

3. Best way of working with the fabric
• Certificate and trophy

The gala dinner and IAF International Design Award Catwalk show will be on October 30 during the IAF World Apparel Convention.

The event will be held at the “Gouvernement” in Maastricht (the Netherlands), the government building where the EU treaty of Maastricht was signed in 1992.

Changing Consumer Needs and the Future of Fashion Business is the central theme that will steer all seminars during the 24th IAF World Apparel Convention, which will be held this year from 28th to 31st of October 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Maastricht, the Netherlands.
