L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival (LMFF) is dedicated to creating the most inspiring, innovative and relevant fashion event in Australia. The most prestigious fashion award that fosters excellence in the fashion industry is undoubtedly the annual LMFF Designer Award presented by iconic global company Woolmark. LMFF is accepting entries for the 2009 LMFF Designer Award.

The Award has been part of the Festival's long term commitment to encouraging innovative Australian fashion, recognising excellence within the industry and providing a platform for future success. It is a national award to champion, promote and celebrate the creative excellence of an emerging generation of contemporary Australian fashion designers. Past winners of the Award have included Toni Maticevski, S!X, Mad Cortes, Josh Goot, T.V, Yeojin Bae and Ben Pollitt.

Karen Webster, Festival Director (LMFF) says, “The LMFF Designer Award presented by Woolmark offers an outstanding platform to celebrate and cultivate exceptional Australian talent and present emerging designers to the local and international arena.”

The LMFF Designer Award recognises designers in their first five years of business, who excel in creative design, quality and who show potential for industry longevity. From a competitive field of entrants, a minimum of five finalists will be selected to present their capsule collections to a judging panel comprising a diverse group of Australian fashion industry leaders, who will then select the winner of the Award.

The 2008 Designer Award winner Ben Pollitt of Fredrich Gray has continued to be recognised for his talent, with an invitation to join the prestigious Australian Wool Industry's International Protégé Project.

As part of the Designer Award prize Pollitt attended Premiere Vision in Paris as a guest of Woolmark where he was introduced to the company's network of contacts including mills and fabrics suppliers. Pollitt also went on to showcase at the Rendezvous Trade show and meet with buyers and press traveling through Paris during Fashion Week.

Pollitt comments “Winning the award has had a tremendous impact on lifting the profile of my label. It's now much easier to establish relationships with retailers because people know my name. Of course the trip to Premiere Vision accompanied by Woolmark was amazing and enabled me to show my new collection in Paris.”

The 2009 LMFF Designer Award winner will be announced at a special presentation during the Festival week (March 15 – 22) at Central Pier. The winner of the 2009 LMFF Designer Award presented by Woolmark receives a $10,000 cheque and commemorative award. The winning designer will also be flown to either Premier Vision (Paris) or Pitti Filati (Florence) as a guest of Woolmark.
