Shyamal & Bhumika create grandeur with bride/groom collection
Oct '08
Creating the drama, beauty, splendour and glory of a Gujarati-Kutchi wedding, the designing duo of Shyamal and Bhumika presented a colourful traditional collection called "Gaam" (which is the Gujarati word for village) for Spring/Summer 2009 at Lakme Fashion Week.

The gorgeous kurtas, lehengas, dupattas, saris, elaborate sherwanis and Jodhpuri jackets for men were lavished with the most superb and spectacular embroidery. Mixing a kaleidoscope of colours, fabrics, patterns and textures, the garments were a mélange of the most gorgeous styles.

Inspired by the colours and styles of Gujarat and Rajasthan, the lehengas were free flowing almost ghumerdaar (swirling) and the kalidaar angarkha, anarkali kurtas, patchwork dresses, the lavish dupattas and the elaborate saris were all accessorized with tassels, mirror work and fumtaas.

At times the kurtas almost had a tunic or dress like appearance with the hemline scalloped and rouched. The wide range of fabrics included brocades, chiffon, georgette, cotton, and silk satin in traditional prints that are a favourite of the border villages.

Motifs like paisleys, flowers and braids in gold and silver added glitter and drama to the collection which was very rustic in nature but at the same time followed the popular requirements of the trousseaux expectations of brides and grooms.

Shyamal and Bhumika are known for their sensational traditional garments and this time they brought to the forefront bridal wear that recreated the glory of beautiful India.
