Thakoon Panichgul to design Target GO Collection

Dec '08
Target is partnering with designer Thakoon Panichgul, to create the next limited-edition collection for GO International, an innovative program designed to provide affordable fashion created by world-renowned designers. Panichgul, celebrated for his avant-garde updates to classic American sportswear and modern yet utterly elegant aesthetic, will launch an exclusive collection on Target.com/go and at most Target stores nationwide December 28, 2008.

His low-priced resort collection of women's swimwear and apparel will be available throughout the month of January 2009.

"Thakoon Panichgul is an extraordinary design talent with a keen eye whose brilliantly priced collection is sure to please our guests," said Trish Adams, senior vice president, Target. "His silhouettes are trend-forward with an urban femininity, providing chic looks at a great value."

Thai-born, Omaha-raised Panichgul grew up with a love for photography and a natural eye for style. After graduating from Boston University with a business degree, Panichgul moved to New York, working as a merchandiser for J. Crew and fashion writer for Harper's Bazaar. Eventually, Panichgul realized he had a designer's point of view and decided to pursue formal studies at Parsons School of Design.

In September 2004, Panichgul launched his namesake ready-to-wear collection to rave reviews, quickly gaining the title of New York's most promising talent. Since then, Panichgul earned a prestigious CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund nomination in 2006 and became a member of the CFDA in August 2008.

Most recently, Panichgul signed on to design ready-to-wear for the internationally recognized fashion house Hogan, with his first collection for the brand launching this fall. Thakoon's eponymous collection is sold at Barneys New York and Jeffrey, as well as other top boutiques around the world.

Thakoon for Target provides a contemporary take on classic resort must-haves for the GO International program with stunning graphic prints and a colorful palette. A blue and white shibori print and yellow and green large floral pattern update basic tees and tunics, providing a younger vibe for the breezy season.

A signature diagonal stripe in blue and green is found throughout the collection and adorns a belted, blousy A-line dress, giving a refreshing edge to a relaxed silhouette. A short-sleeve hip-length cardigan in gray makes it easy to pull off the layered look; a stylish topper over a shibori print tee and black cropped pants. Swimwear in bright hues looks chic worn with a coordinating tunic in a matching print; a true statement poolside.

Thakoon for Target GO International presents exotic flare at affordable prices making designer fashion available to women everywhere.
