YMA hosts Fashion Roundtable Discussion

The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund hosted its 4th annual Roundtable Discussion on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Manhattan's Director's Guild of America for college students interested in the fashion industry.
Tim Gunn (Star of Bravo's "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style," mentor on "Project Runway" and Chief Creative Officer at Liz Claiborne Inc.) moderated a timely and lively discussion between panelists Mindy Grossman (Chief Executive Officer, Home Shopping Network, Inc.), Zac Posen (fashion designer), Les Steiger (Senior Vice President GMM Men's, Macy's Central), Alex Gonzalez (Principal and Executive Creative Director, AR), Mary Alice Stephenson (Contributing Fashion Editor, Harper's Bazaar, and Style Expert), and Josh Button (Model and Menswear Fashion Consultant) based on this year's theme, "Redefining the Rules of Fashion in Today's Economy," which was based on current economic issues as they apply to and affect the fashion industry.
The Roundtable Discussion was sponsored by DOW XLA and hosted by the YMA FASHION SCHOLARSHIP FUND, a national non-profit association consisting of influential members of the fashion community, dedicated to promoting education of the fashion arts and business by granting scholarships to talented students and facilitating internships, mentorships, and career programs.
Students interested in fashion from participating colleges attended this free event and listened to insights and advice from this year's esteemed panel, comprised of notable fashion industry leaders in the areas of design, retail, merchandising, business, and editorial press. The purpose was to educate, challenge and inspire the next generation of leaders in the fashion industry and to provide an informative forum for students and industry veterans to meet and discuss important issues.
The YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund Geoffrey Beene Fashion Scholarship Dinner will be held on January 7, 2009 at the New York Marriott Marquis and will honor three of the Roundtable's panelists -- Mindy Grossman, Zac Posen, and Les Steiger -- for their contribution to the industry.
