Materials at WSA continues to be a source of buzz for those who attended WSA's most recent event. More than 1,350 product developers, designers, sourcing managers and retailer buyers participated in the popular 'show within a show.'

This year the percentage of designers and product developers doubled from the July 2008 marketplace, proving that this segment is vital to the entire footwear industry, and that material attendees are the 'right' people that exhibitors want to meet. The February 2009 WSA Show gathered 24,270 participants from every corner of the U.S. and 106 countries.

Material suppliers were pleased with their experience at Materials at WSA, and many have already signed up for July 2009. Jimmy Barnhardt, director of new business for Cocona Inc. said, “We've had great quality appointments this show. People are looking for new technologies, and this was the perfect stage to present that technology to the right audience.”

The popular Trend Area at Materials provided a unique way to discover the colors and materials expected to define the footwear and accessories direction for Spring/Summer 2010, while “Mix and Mingle at Materials,” a complimentary networking cocktail party, gathered the industry together, helping connect resources and encourage potential partnerships.

Two world-class educational workshops featured the industry's top experts, Leatrice Eiseman (Pantone Inc.) and Mercedes Gonzales (Global Purchasing Companies). Eiseman provided her expert insight on the upcoming color trends in, “The Magic of Color—Spring/Summer 2010 Trend and Color Forecasting,” while Gonzalez shared her personal experience using suppliers from South America in, “Speed to Market: Are You in the Loop?”

Many exciting changes are in store for the area's summer 2009 showcase, including transforming the Trend Area into a venue for not only inspiration and discovery, but also for learning and discussion. For incredible visual impact, a large material wall will be added featuring approximately 150 additional materials from outside the footwear industry to excite, provoke and engage designers.

The Trend Area's creative space will also feature an all-new look and layout, designed to create a more relaxed feel and allow greater networking opportunities amongst attendees. With this new feel, the area will accommodate an informal series of workshops in an easily accessible roundtable format.

Materials at WSA's next exhibition will take place within The WSA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center July 31 – August 2, 2009. The Collections at WSA, held alongside The WSA Show, will continue to be held in the suites at The Venetian.
