Sauterelle - 'a ticking beauty with a spring in its step'

Damas, leading retailer of stylish watches and jewellery in the Middle East unveils a distinguished masterpiece from acclaimed Munich, Germany-based watchmaker Chronoswiss – the Sauterelle.

One of the most talked about high-end watches presented this year at Baselworld, the vitally important trade fair of the global watch and jewellery industry, Sauterelle set a new milestone in the history of the well known watch-making brand as its very first model fitted with an in-house manufacture movement. An aspect that the company clearly takes pride by proclaiming (even on the dial) that it is 'Made in Germany'.

Endowed with classic good looks, Sauterelle measures 44 mm, and comes in two versions - as a classic three-hand timepiece with either a black or white dial as well as a regulator—which the brand is well known for. The movement inside powers a deadbeat seconds hand (rather than the more common sweep seconds), and the constant 'jumping' gives the watch its name: Sauterelle or grasshopper in English. The new model is available in both purist steel and blushing tones of rose gold.

Tawhid Abdullah, Managing Director commented, “Chronoswiss watches are designed to take you on a journey through Time and we at Damas feel truly proud to present its new Sauterelle incorporating its wholly in-house manufactured movement. As one of the most popular high-end watch brands hailed by connoisseurs and watch lovers, Chronoswiss offers yet another mechanical masterpiece.”

Chronoswiss's Sauterelle can rightly be described as 'a ticking beauty with a spring in its step'. The very large balance with its variable torque and the accompanying Breguet overcoil balance spring complete 18,000 semi-oscillations per hour (2.5Hz). Its fascinating jump second mechanism is an interesting horological innovation and complication where forced control occurs with the help of an easy-to-set initial tension spring, thereby thoroughly eliminating the 'galloping' that generally occurs.

Ease of maintenance being of utmost importance, Chronoswiss has come up with an ingenious idea in its Sauterelle – a spare-parts storage area – located inside the movement between the barrel bridge and the third wheel bridge. 60 hours of power reserve gives it almost three days worth of energy.

The movement is especially de-signed to be long lasting with rolling cycloid gearing that is energy efficient and creates less wear. Several other friction reducing elements incorporated in the timepiece ensure smooth energy transfer resulting in higher efficiency.

The Sauterelle collection will soon be available at Damas Les Exclusive Boutiques in Saks Fifth Avenue, BurJu-man; Emirates Towers; Burj Al Arab; Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai Mall; City Centre; and at the Mall of the Emirates.
