Fashion for Peace to promote wealth of African talent in fashion industry

Top Designer
Top designers from around the continent and diaspora have been invited to join Kenyan designers in displaying their creative talent.
Confirmed designers include:

Folake Coker of Tiffany Amber (Nigeria)

Mame Fagueye Ba (Senegal)
Arapapa (Uganda)
John Kaveke (Kenya)
KikoRomeo (Kenya)

Patricia Mbela (Kenya)
Monica Kanari (Kenya)
Betty Vanetti (Kenya)
Doreen Mashika (Tanzania)

Kenyan TV personality and host of her own pan-African prime time television show viewed in 53 countries, Patricia Amira, will be hosting the event.

Designers will be given the opportunity to do photo shoots in prime locations around Kenya, thereby getting Kenya into fashion editorials and renowned catalogues, with key international fashion media invited free of charge.


Promoting Africa
Last year, Fashion for peace generated over 250 000 USD worth of media coverage on television, newspapers, radio and magazines. This is in addition to worldwide coverage including Die Welt (Germany), La Repubblica (Italy), Al Jazeera, CNBC, CBC (Canada), Studio 53, Reuters, AP, AFP and many more.

Key international fashion media will be invited free of charge, as they were last year, as well as locally based media. This will help promote the wealth of African talent which exists in the fashion industry, as well as promoting Kenya as the great tourist destination that it.

When and Where
Gala Fashion Show, April 25th 2009 in the Nairobi National Park
Game drive in the park to see wildlife as of 5:00 PM
Sunset Cocktail begins at 18:00
Sit down dinner and fashion show begin at 19:00

Musical performances will be an integral part of the event, including:
Afro Project - Afro fusion jazz band from Kenya.
Iddi Achieng - Award winning Kenyan singer
Carlou D - upcoming star from Senegal

Designer master class at the Goethe Institut, April 23rd 2009
6.30pm – aspiring designers and students will join a panel of fashion experts from the industry to discuss the principles and application for "Making Trade Fair" in relation to the fashion industry.

"How to Put Together a Collection" at Alliance Francaise, April 24th 2009 - N.B. yet to be confirmed Designer workshop conducted by Paris-based Camerounian designer Imane Ayissi, together with Jean Marc Chauve - expert from the Institut Francais de la Mode in Paris. They will talk to students and look at how Imane fuses African and European influences into a high class collection. Evening concert at Alliance with band from Benin will follow
