Mode Îles Ltd, organizers of the award-winning event, Islands of the World Fashion Week, have announced plans to host the second edition of the event during the period November 4th – 8th at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Hotel in The Bahamas.

Leading up to Fashion Week the organizers will be busy producing the fashion show for the Miss Universe Pageant scheduled to take place in The Bahamas in August. The fashion show will feature creations by leading Bahamian designers utilizing fabric of Bahamas-based manufacturers, Androsia and Bahama Hand Prints, and modeled by all of the contestants in the Miss Universe Pageant.

Owen Bethel, President of Mode Îles, Ltd., also serves as Chairman of the Miss Universe Pageant Host Planning Committee and Pageant Coordinator. Mr. Bethel commented that: “the hosting of the Miss Universe Pageant in The Bahamas presents a tremendous opportunity to showcase the talent and creativity of the fashion industry in the country. It will be the point that beauty and fashion blend on the world stage in a dazzling spectacle. Mode Îles is proud to be a part of this global event, with the momentum carried forward to Islands of the World Fashion Week in November.”

While the fashion show in August will feature only Bahamian designers, the Islands of the World Fashion Week in November will showcase leading designers from islands around the world. The inaugural event last year featured 38 designers from 13 island nations as diverse as Fiji, Indonesia, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Endorsed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for its promotion of cultural diversity and the themes of the environment and climate change, poverty alleviation, and the education of youth on HIV/AIDS, the event encourages designers to reflect these themes in their designs, giving recognition awards in the categories of Sustainable Eco-Fashion, and Culture & Fashion.

In addition, awards are presented to a young new designer (The NextGen Designer Award) and the Humanitarian Designer Award. The recipient of the Humanitarian Designer Award last year was Kenneth Cole for his support in the fight against HIV/AIDS and the innovative integration of this cause in his marketing and production.
