Thom Miller joins Otis College of Art and Design

Thomas R. Miller, executive vice president of Marketing at City National Corporation, was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Otis College of Art and Design. One of the nation's foremost art and design colleges awarding BFA and MFA degrees, Otis College is considered L.A.'s first art institute, established in 1918 by the founder of the Los Angeles Times.

“Thom Miller is a richly experienced executive who embraces creativity and believes that art and design education matters. His strategic mind and expertise in marketing and communications will help Otis advance its services. We wholeheartedly welcome Thom to this leadership position at the College,” said Samuel Hoi, president of Otis College of Art and Design.

During his more than 30 years in marketing and advertising, Thomas R. Miller has helped position some of the world's premier brands for companies like Ford Motor Company, Proctor & Gamble, Mattel, RJR Nabisco, The Pillsbury Company, Sunkist and Universal Studios. His extensive experience ranges from product branding and strategic development to national political marketing and executive-level corporate management.

Immediately prior to joining City National Bank, Miller was executive vice president and general manager of the Los Angeles office of Foot, Cone & Belding Worldwide. Before joining FCB, he was president of Ketchum Advertising/New York and a member of the board of directors of Ketchum Communications, Inc. He also served as chairman of the New York Council of the American Association of Advertising Agencies.

Thomas R. Miller earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Michigan State University. Active in community and civic affairs, he is president of the Los Angeles Conservancy board of directors, and also serves on the boards of the United Way of Greater Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Parks Foundation. Miller is also chairman emeritus of the Los Angeles Library Foundation.

Other members of the Otis College board of trustees include Hope Warschaw, Board Chair; Susan Crank of Lunada Bay; Bettye J. Dixon of Concourse Concessions Inc.; Bronya Pereira Galef and Elaine Goldsmith, Chairs Emerita; Steve Jarchow of Regent Entertainment; Bob McKnight of Quiksilver Inc.; Academy Award winner and special effects producer Jim Rygiel; interior designer Michael S. Smith; Bryan Stockton of Mattel; and Roger Wyett of Hurley International.

Founded over nine decades ago, Otis College of Art and Design prepares diverse students of art and design to enrich the world through their creativity, their skill, and their vision. The College offers an interdisciplinary education for 1200 full-time students, awarding BFA degrees in advertising, architecture/landscape/interiors, digital media, fashion design, illustration, graphic design, interactive product design, painting, photography, sculpture/new genres, and toy design; and MFA degrees in fine arts, graphic design, public practice, and writing. Continuing Education offers certificate programs as well as personal and professional development courses.
