To evaluate its effects and discover new opportunities for this sector, the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association(Abicalçados) promotes on July 13th in the city of São Paulo, the 13th edition of the National Seminar of the Footwear Industry. The event precedes the 41st Francal - International Shoes, Fashion Accessories, Machines and Components Fair, which starts at Anhembi Park on the following day.

Under the title Threats and Opportunities for the footwear industry, the seminar has topics as the impact of the crisis in Brazil and abroad, the reactions of European and North-American consumers to this new framework as well as how Brazilian firms may create opportunities to establish international partnerships. In an even broader vision, the Regional Programme for Improving Global Competitiveness of the Latin American Leather and Footwear Industries, developed by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) will be shown. The speakers will come from the United States, Spain and Italy.

To discuss the information and proposals a round table will be organized before the ending, with the sponsoring bodies, Latin American chambers of shoes and the speakers. According to Heitor Klein, executive director of Abicalçados, “we are living a very different time from other times and the sector needs to follow this movement to make strategic decisions that make the difference when this period finishes”.

Forum - leaders of neighboring countries will be together. In order to take the best of the situation, Abicalçados will promote the III Latin American Forum of Footwear Industry, composed of leaders of the countries manufacturer of footwear. The first Forum took place in 2007, during the 10th Latin American Meeting of the Boards of the Footwear Industry in Buenos Aires. Last year, the meeting was in Leon / Mexico.
