Berghaus, one of the world's leading outdoor equipment brands, has launched in China with the help of two famous explorers at a special event at the British Ambassador's Residence in Beijing.

Sir Chris Bonington, who is the company's Non Executive Chairman, and Leo Houlding, a young climber with a fast growing international reputation, gave presentations about their many adventures. Leo has been given rare permission by the Chinese government to climb on the sacred mountain of Huashan and he gave an insight into his plans to achieve an ambitious first ascent of the west face of the peak.

Founded in England in 1966 the company has a long and distinguished history and a reach in over 30 countries.

During the last two years, Berghaus has embarked on a sustained programme of expansion with a major focus on the Asian market. Last year the company opened a regional headquarters in Hong Kong, which now employs 30 dedicated staff. The Berghaus brand will be managed in China by Symphony Resources Ltd, whose Managing Director is Allan Chan.

British Ambassador to China, Sir William Ehrman, hosted the launch event attended by VIPs, the media and representatives from Berghaus and Pentland. Berghaus was represented by Brand President Richard Cotter and Asia Pacific Vice President Michael Lockett. Representing Pentland were Chief Executive Andy Rubin, Legal Counsel Ean Brown and Pentland Asia Chief Executive Officer Colin Browne . Symphony Resources Ltd Board of Directors attended the event and presentations were held by Allan Chan, Managing Director regarding his plans for the Chinese market.

Throughout its history, Berghaus has been associated with many of the world's greatest outdoor athletes, such as mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington, who is the company's Non Executive Chairman, and Leo Houlding, a young climber with a fast growing international reputation. Sir Chris and Leo both attended the launch event and gave presentations about their many adventures. Leo has been given rare permission by the Chinese government to climb on the sacred mountain of Huashan and he gave an insight into his plans to achieve an ambitious first ascent of the west face of the peak.

Richard Cotter, Berghaus Brand President, comments:
“This is a historic moment for Berghaus. China is one of the fastest growing outdoor markets in the world and will be a crucial area of growth for our brand. We have ambitious plans for China and my team is looking forward to working with our partner Symphony to deliver great success here. I am very grateful to the Ambassador for hosting this event and believe that it is a very appropriate way to mark Berghaus' entry into China.”

Sir William Ehrman, British Ambassador to China, adds:
“It is always a pleasure to welcome a new British business to China. So I am delighted that Berghaus has joined the ranks of British brands present here on the mainland, and that it now alsohas a dedicated Asia headquarters in Hong Kong.
