British Fashion Council joins UK Fashion and Textile Association

The British Fashion Council (BFC) is the latest organisation to become a member of the UK Fashion and Textile Association(UKFT), the leading trade association representing the fashion and textile sector.
“UKFT's aim is to be the 'single voice' of the fashion and textile industry, representing businesses of all sizes – whether they be a small design-led company or a multi-million pound organisation. Having the BFC on board adds further depth on the design side and enables us to work more closely on initiatives that will help designers be better placed to develop sales both in the UK and overseas and receive first-hand guidance on national and international issues that will affect them,” confirms Peter Lucas, chairman, UKFT.
Harold Tillman, chairman, BFC, commented, “The BFC promotes leading British fashion designers in a global market, supports emerging talent to showcase and develop their businesses and organises events, including London Fashion Week and the British Fashion Awards, to support these goals and strengthen the UK's reputation for developing design excellence. Joining UKFT will allow us to share our experiences, explore opportunities for designer businesses and discuss issues affecting British designer businesses with the broader 'fashion industry' in the UK.” The BFC will take up two seats on the UKFT board.
Over the past six months, the Savile Row Bespoke Association, the British Menswear Guild and the Association of Suppliers to the British Clothing Industry Association have all become members of UKFT. Talks are also progressing with other organisations, including a group of British textiles firms, the National Childrenswear Association and the Textile Institute.
