Harvey Nichols launches Lana Marks

The idea for a luxury exotic leather fashion brand was officially born in 1984, when Lana Marks and her husband were invited to a birthday celebration for Queen Elizabeth II aboard the royal yacht Britannia.
A fruitless search for a red alligator handbag to match her suit led Marks to conclude that a niche existed in the marketplace for luxury, exotic leather fashion handbags...in fabulous colors!
Dedicated to her new cause, Lana devoted the next several years to studying the finer techniques of accessories design and Italian production, working with some of the most skilled artisans in the world.
In 1988, Lana Marks officially launched her first design.
And so, to 2009 - Harvey Nichols, London. Lana J. Marks is now a world-renowned American handbag and accessory designer to the A-List darlings of Hollywood, society mavens and members of royalty. The international expansion of the LANA MARKS Brand has continued apace and we are excited to announce the opening of Lana Marks EXCLUSIVELY at Harvey Nichols!
Excitingly, this is the first Lana Marks presence in the British Market and will set a new standard for luxury, fashion-forward accessories. Ostrich, lizard, crocodile, alligator, (of which Lana will only use grade A centre-cut alligator), customised leathers and satins all play their role within the collection, of which there are now over 150 designs available - what a talented lady!
Angelina Jolie; Julie Christie; Helen Mirren; Drew Barrymore; Chloe Sevigny; Jennifer Aniston; Kate Winslet; Charlize Theron; Lucy Liu; Oprah Winfrey; Julianne Moore; Reese Witherspoon; Madonna and Diana, Princess of Wales, to whom Lana has now designed a bag in her honour, have been just a few of her well-known customers.
Lana's exciting style credentials do not end there, however! The talented Ms. Marks is also a member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and in 2000 and 2002, was selected as the handbag and accessory consultant to the Academy Awards. In 2001 she was one of 50 American CEOs - the sole fashion representative - invited to the White House for the Women Business Leaders' Forum. Selected twice to represent the U.S. at an Eastern European business forum in Helsinki, she was also one of 40 businesswomen chosen by the STAR Group in 2002 as a leading woman entrepreneur of the world. Lana Marks was appointed to the Women's Leadership Board at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, alongside supporting dozens of charities, phew!
