The new diamond brand focuses on Christian jewelry design as a means to create spiritually meaningful jewelry. The new faith based diamond is virtually indistinguishable from a round brilliant diamond, with the exception of an additional 16 facets cut into the pavilion (the underside of the diamond). The facets form three distinct cross images that can be seen within the diamond through a special viewer.
The Cross of Light Diamond patent was awarded to Arlan Abel, of Adamas Inc. a retail jewelry store owner since 1977. The design was created for people who want a diamond that reflects their spiritual beliefs. "For years people have been coming into my store during the most meaningful times in their lives," Arlan says. He continues: "A great many of them wished to custom design spiritually meaningful engagement or wedding rings. They would also seek out fine Catholic/Christian jewelry to mark significant events in their spiritual journey, like an anniversary, or the birth of a child. For this reason, the cross was an easy design choice because of the deep meaning it holds for so many people."
The royalties from the sale of the Cross of Light Diamond have been assigned to the http://www.crossoflightdiamondfoundation.com Run by his daughter Rachel Heine a former missionary to Africa, the foundation seeks to assist widows and orphans primarily in Africa. Because the diamond was designed for a nonprofit, Arlan has resisted the designer markups in order to allow the diamond to be affordable for anyone who may find it meaningful for them.
A design guide is available at: http://www.designchristianjewelry.com. The website explains the traditional Catholic/Christian meanings behind Christian jewelry design and the wearability of different gemstones, metals, and styles. A blog on the website discusses how to design Christian jewelry as a means of spiritual contemplation.
