Then to Now and finally Forever – LFW Day 1 ends

Anshu Jason presented Fruit Shock in her own inimitable style with two pretty as a picture little tunics with abstract fruit prints and it was a maroon gown with smudgy effects and discreet glitter that made an impact Forever 2004 Fireworks Tarun Tahiliani went on to create Fireworks with his dramatic fringed dress and gown with corded off- shoulder neckline for Now while his look Forever was a draped bronze satin backless dress.
2005 Mosaic
Malini Ramani's two black chiffon asymmetric gowns with heavy gold embroidery were characteristic of her look, but Forever was tiger stripes in gold and black for a backless mini.
2005 Peppermint
Monisha Jaising added hot touches for her two geometric print mini and top for Now, but an olive long skirt and draped bustiers was her Forever offering.
Varun Bahl's Lurex bubble shorts and draped blouses with net jacket and dress with gold mesh top was his version for Now but he preferred to predict that Forever would be his forte in velvet and chiffon appliqué ivory shift.
2006 Happy HourRitu Beri brought nocturnal glamour on to the ramp with her goddess gown in bronze and a tiger embroidered choli and ornate lehenga for Now. Forever it was a Spanish inspired skirt and sexy choli.
2006 Freespirit
Sabyasachi Mukherjee's two mixed patterned and textured almost Victorian skirts and blouses were the Now looks, but for the future it was a velvet chiffon multi print skirt, blouse and bolero in earthy tones.
2007 Freespirit
Narendra Kumar gave Freespirit a day vision for the millennium with a spiked hem, detailed strapless dress and a glistening bubble mini but for the future it was a Lurex bronze pair of pants and a slim textured brocade jacket.
Manish Malhotra's glittering shaded saris in net and silk were teamed with bikini tops for the today's woman but his ivory panelled lehenga with ornate blouses is how he sees his women dressed Forever.
2009 Bridal Sutra
Finally Anamika Khanna's Bridal Sutra creations were for the Indian brides as two tail coat textured long jackets over skirts were for the women of today and her Forever creation was a gold ivory draped skirt and black velvet jacket.
As the 20 top creative talents – the best designers of India - took their bow, the audience gave them a standing ovation for they have been instrumental in guiding and pioneering the fashion in the country for a decade.
The enthralling journey of a decade of fashion was choreographed by Anu Ahuja. Each season the Lakme Fashion Week has presented outstanding fashion events. In March 2009 it was the Mai Mumbai show that brought together Indian and international designers, models and celebrities on the ramp. In 2009 it was “LAKME AND IMG CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF FASHION” PRESENTED BY SAMIRA HABITATS” which was another memorable show that will be remembered in the annals of fashion as one of the most magnificent presentations in India.
