What: Shanghai Tang Trunk Show, showcasing Fall- Winter Collection When: October 08-10, 2009 Where: The Taj Mahal, New Delhi
For Fall / Winter 2009, Shanghai Tang takes a trip down the Straits with a collection that draws upon the kaleidoscope cultures of South East Asia. Inspired by the rich traditions and refined aesthetics of Peranakan Chinese, who settled in the region in the late 18th century, the collection brings together lush textures and luxurious fabrics in a palette that reflects the romance of Southeast Asia. Elaborate embroideries and intricate prints (echoing traditional porcelain mosaics and indigenous flora) are combined with Art Deco influences for a silhouette that is at once retro-inflected and resolutely modern.
Shanghai Tang's fundamental design concept is inspired by traditional Chinese motifs combined with the modernity and dynamism of the 21st century. Like all the major international brands, Shanghai Tang has flagship boutiques in the shopping capitals of the world – from New York, Paris, London to Hong Kong and Shanghai. However, its message is unique and remarkable: Shanghai Tang creates luxurious, modern Chinese chic with themes deeply rooted in ancient and authentic Chinese culture. While the brand does not currently have any freestanding boutiques in India, it is nonetheless a household name amongst all the fashion conscious, globetrotting and cosmopolitan Indians.
