The business community is becoming increasingly interested in sustainable innovation and social responsibility. The focal point of the contest is innovation and sustainable design created by young and talented designers from Danish Design schools. Danish Design Centre, the cosmetic companies Aveda and Origins, and the model agency Unique Models have chosen to support this exclusive fashionshow held during the Climate Change Conference.

Please note that the date has changed to Wednesday 2 December 2009, due to expected visits from high profiled guests.

Why create sustainable design?
Everyone buys clothes. In year 2000 more than 5,5 trillion DKK where spent on clothes and nearly 30 million people worked within the textile and garment industry, which places garments among the most sold commodities internationally . By virtue of the global trade and manufacturing of clothes the clothing industry contributes severely to the global warming. Therefore it is essential that social responsibility and sustainable design are placed on the agenda of the consumers, garment factories and the fashion industry.

"The increased focus on climatic changes and protection of the environment makes it relevant for the fashion industry to create new standards for design and the clothing industry in general. Today products tend to reflect the consumers identity and their attitudes towards ethics and social responsibility." says Peter Dammand, contest coordinator from The Danish Design School.

Support from Aveda and Origins
The two Estée Lauder owned brands, Aveda and Origins, are among the companies that have chosen to support the "Innovating Sustainable Fashion" project and will style and donate cosmetic products for the show n December 2nd. Aveda's and Origins' profiles are completely mission aligned with the concept of Innovating Sustainable Fashion. Both companies are based on firm foundations, which put great emphasis on environmental protection and social responsibility. They work actively with CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) that is reflected in the companies environmental activities and the production process.

The fashion show
