Adidas, one of the major sports brand intends to manufacture trainers priced at just €1 for the people who are not able to purchase shoes. The brand would start its pilot production in Bangladesh next year, after being inspired by Nobel Peace Prize winner Mr. Muhammad Yunus's suggestion of 'social business' project.
It will manufacture the shoes on non-profit basis and will sell them just at the cost of materials and production; however, it said that €1 price tag (equivalent to 89p) is just a concept and final price of the trainer might be slightly higher than €1.
It is not confirmed that weather the trainers would feature the Adidas's three-striped label or would be unbranded. Brand's move to establish the production unit in Bangladesh will prove to be helpful for generating jobs for garment workers in the country who are among the poorest paid workers in the world.
The brand had to face criticism, last year, for the amount it allegedly paid to workers at its Chinese factories.
