An open roof produced cool temperatures for Wednesday night's marathon World Series Game Three. With the roof expected to be open for tonight's Game Four, players are once again expected to be wearing the new Nike Pro compression apparel featuring thermal retention, thermal fleece and compression zones in the elbow and shoulder areas to reduce stress on the joints during the throwing motion.

The products have been wear-tested throughout the 2005 MLB season by pitchers, but are now being made available to both pitchers and position players.

Regulating body temperature is crucial in avoiding injuries and performing at an optimal level when the air temperature drops. To address these issues of cold and fatigue the Nike Pro garment has a thermal material in the elbow and shoulder area to keep the throwing arm warm and compressed.

Rodney Knox, Nike U.S. Director of Communications, Team Sports stated that the weather always seems to play a larger role during the World Series because the games are often in prime time for television and temperatures in October often dip near freezing. They are always seeking innovative solutions that allow athletes to perform at an optimal level regardless of the environmental conditions they are facing and Nike Pro offers the performance edge needed during this World Series.

Nike examined every phase of an athlete's throwing motion. During the acceleration phase, the upper arm generates intense torque levels on the elbow joint, caused by the cocked angle of the elbow through the motion. The ligaments and muscles in the elbow provide a significant percentage of the resistance during this phase. It is thought that joint stability at the elbow, combined with muscle contraction can reduce the stress on the elbow joint.
