Research and development organization Australian Wool Innovation Limited (AWI) has announced a joint venture with exciting young Australian fashion designer Josh Goot, who launched his new autumn/winter collection at Mercedes Australian Fashion Week in Melbourne.

The partnership with Josh Goot is part of AWI's push to increase demand for Australian Merino wool by building alliances with designers, manufacturers and retailers around the world, introducing them to the latest Australian Merino wool fabric innovations.

AWI Fashion Communications Manager Melissa Grace said AWI aimed to reinforce the presence of Australian Merino wool in the design end of the Australian fashion industry, showcasing its versatility both here and overseas.

She stated that leading and innovative designers such as Josh are key influencers and also have an enormous impact on trends in the mainstream retail brands, so there is significant potential for increased use of Australian Merino wool.

Josh Goot is one of Australia's most innovative designers, who burst onto the fashion scene in 2004 and is known for his modern styling of easy care fabrics.

Mr Goot said while he had traditionally worked with 100 per cent cotton jersey, this year he had chosen to extend the range to include Merino wool jersey.

She also informed that The Australian Merino wool knits I have sourced through AWI have the natural stretch, drape, durability and versatility that I require to achieve my signature look. She enjoys working with 100 per cent wool as it is a natural fibre that breaths and is soft to touch - but she was pleasantly surprised that she could get the versability and softness with Merino wool that has allowed me to maintain my style with the added natural benefits of wool.
