AW10 Collection Launch Event - 7th January, 2010

International Conference & Fashion Show - Manchester, England

Born from Manchester street style in the late 1980s and now a front-line International fashion brand sold in 28 countries, Bench is marking the dawn of its third decade with a return to its roots, celebrating the launch of its AW10 collection with a special day of events in its hometown - Manchester, England - on Thursday, January 7th, 2010.

The new collection will be shown to full effect in the evening's Fashion Show which will take place in front of an invited audience in one of Manchester's most spectacular architectural masterpieces. For now the location is a secret but rest assured this Grade II* listed building provides one of the most magnificent settings one could wish for and the show's production plays off it brilliantly.

One aspect that can be revealed in advance, and indeed would be expected given Bench's historically close relationship to the music scene (the brand currently partners both Creamfields and Ibiza Rocks), is that music runs consistently through the DNA of the entire evening.

The morning and afternoon will feature an international conference at Manchester's 5* Lowry Hotel and here the full AW10 collection - Men's Apparel, Women's Apparel, Accessories, Footwear and Bench Sport (i.e. snow gear etc) - will be unveiled for its first viewings by the network of Bench's international agents and distributors (drawn from 28 destination countries) alongside Bench's in-house retail managers and its 120 Head Office staff, the latter all based in the city and as such the heart and the soul of this uniquely Manchester brand.

This very first look at the collection prefigures a hectic schedule of appearances over the coming months with 14 exhibitions in the first 10 weeks alone as Bench AW10 travels around the globe. Among particular highlights will be Bench's presence at Bread & Butter Berlin (January 20-22) as a key part of its expansive Denim Base.

Set design for the Fashion Show in Manchester (including a series of specially commissioned projections) comes from Chrissie Abbott, a rising illustrator and graphic designer well known in the music world for her arresting work for Little Boots. The show's head stylist meanwhile is Amechi Ihenacho, formerly Fashion Editor of Flux Magazine and now making waves as a designer in his own right with pieces for Paloma Faith and Noisettes' lead singer Shingai Shoniwa.

Factor in a hand-picked selection of bands and DJs and you have a uniquely special occasion – one that not only showcases Bench's latest collection as it opens a new decade but does so at the very heart of the city that created and still maintains its essence.
