Deb Shops' same store sales improve 12.8% & total sales rise 13.3%

Specialty apparel stores operator Deb Shops Inc reported that comparable store sales increased 12.8 percent in October 2005 as compared to October 2004. Total sales increased 13.3 percent to $25.9 million from $22.9 million in October 2004.
For the quarter ended October 31, 2005, comparable store sales increased 9.8 percent and total sales increased 10.5 percent to $83.2 million from $75.2 million for the prior year quarter. During the nine-month period ended October 31, 2005, comparable store sales increased 7.1 percent and total sales increased 7.0 percent to $236.4 million from $220.8 million for the prior year period.
The Company reports financial results on the calendar month, therefore, differences in timing will occur when comparing Deb Shops' results to those of retailers reporting on a 4-5-4 calendar. During the month of October 2005, there were four Fridays compared to five Fridays in October 2004.
The Company also announced that John DeAngelis has been appointed Vice President of Real Estate, effective November 1, 2005. Prior to joining Deb Shops, DeAngelis spent eight years with Dress Barn, most recently as the Assistant Vice President of Real Estate. Overall, DeAngelis has more than 13 years' experience in retail real estate.
